Laying PE pipes on a pile foundation

The soil is an essential part of the static system in a pipe's structural analysis, especially when it comes to flexible pipes. If pipes are laid in non-bearing soils, uneven settlements may occur. In order to reduce the effects of these settlements, the pipes can be laid on piles. In addition to the influences in the (radial) pipe cross-section, the longitudinal direction and local influences of the pipe-pile connection must be considered.

IngSoft was commissioned to calculate the minimum pile spacings required to keep the deflections of the pipeline between the piles within specified limits. We solved this task by the help of the Finite Flements Method (FEM) in a reasonable time for the decisive load case.
